Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.
Before applying for a grant you should read the advice available on War Memorials Trust`s website. The What we can and cannot fund helpsheet explains what types of work the charity can fund.
If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.
The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.
You can save your Pre-application enquiry form as you go along. Once submitted War Memorials Trust will respond.

Fryatt Hotel & Bar The information page-A little bit of/History/The Fryatt Hotel & Bar has been trading from 1887 as the Garlanld [sic] named after Squire/Garland who sold land to the Great Eastern Railway to build the Quay and village.// The ground floor was a smoking room, with a long bar and at the rear a function room. The/first floor had ten bedrooms and a dressing room. In 1907 an assembly room and offices were/added to the Hotel.// The pub and guesthouse was renamed Captain Fryatt in 1985 after Captain Fryatt, master of/the S.S. Brusssels. In 1915. whilst sailing from Parkeston, his ship was accosted by a German/Submarine near the Maas Lightship.// Fryatt disregarded the signal to stop and steered straight for the submarine which escaped by/diving. In 1916, steaming back to England from the Hook of Holland, the Brussels was/captured by a torpedo-boat flotilla and were taken to Zeebrugge. Fryatt was tried by the/Germans or [sic] his actions and shot the same day.// He was only the second British civilian to be executed during the war; the other was nurse/Edith Cavell, who was shot on the morning of 12 October 1915.// The body of Captain Fryatt was finally laid to rest in the graveyard of All Saints Church, Upper/Dovercourt, Harwich where it overlooks the harbour. The inscription on the headstone reads:// 'In Memory of Captain Charles Algernon-Fryatt, Master of the Great Eastern Steamship/Brussels. Illegally executed by the Germans at Bruges on 27 July 1916'.// Recently [in 2019] the pub and guesthouse has been renovated and additional rooms have been/added as well as refurbishing it's bar and introducing a new menu.// We welcome you to the Fryatt Hotel & Bar, Harwich.
