About the memorial: Raised by Alan Brigham and the Hull People's Memorial team, this memorial includes all known names of those who were killed within The City during World Wars One and Two. The memorial is in the form of an eight-foot silver globe, representing the boundaries of Kingston upon Hull. It is decorated by 'torn' ash leaves, torn as the lives of those listed thereon have been torn short, and torn from the community of Kingston upon Hull. The names on leaves are arranged chronologically, with some dates being represented by more than one leaf due to high the number of people who were killed during a raid on the city. There are many empty leaves around the top of the memorial to represent those unfortunate souls who were never identified or whose remains were discovered. The Hull People's Memorial was unveiled, by local author Val Wood, on 12th May 2018. Additional speeches were given by The Lord Mayor of Kingston upon Hull, Alan Brigham - Chairman of The Mull People's Memorial Group with a Guard of Honour provided by the Hull People's Memorial re-enactment team, dressed in a variety of period uniforms and civilian clothing.
