About the memorial: MARBLE TABLET AND WINDOW. WINDOW DEPICTS CHRIST ASCENDING TO HEAVEN IN COMPANY OF ANGELS WITH APOSTLES BELOW TABLET HAS COAT OF ARMS AT TOP AND METALLIC DECORATION OF ROSES.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

Before applying for a grant you should read the advice available on War Memorials Trust`s website. The What we can and cannot fund helpsheet explains what types of work the charity can fund.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

You can save your Pre-application enquiry form as you go along. Once submitted War Memorials Trust will respond.

(ON TABLET): IN MEMORY OF HERBERT WILLIAM THOMPSON/ CAPTAIN IN THE 2ND DRAGOON GUARDS, QUEEN'S BAYS, WHO DIED ON THE 28TH OF JAN. 1874. HE WAS THE YOUNGEST SON OF JOHN VINCENT THOMPSON SERGEANT-AT-LAW/ AND WAS A STUDENT IN THIS COLLEGE FROM 1855 TO 1859/ HE JOINED 16TH REGIMENT OF FOOT AS ENSIGN AND/ SUBSEQUENTLY GOT A COMPANY IN 3RD WEST INDIA/ REGIMENT WHENCE HE EXCHANGED TO 14TH REGIMENT OF FOOT AND FINALLY TO THE QUEEN'S BAYS. HE/ VOLUNTEERED FOR THE ASHANTI WAR AND DISTINGUISHED/ HIMSELF BY HIS ENERGY INTELLIGENCE & CONSPICUOUS/ BRAVERY. HE DIED FROM THE EFFECTS OF THE CLIMATE/ AT SEA OFF ST. VINCENT AT THE EARLY AGE OF 32. (BELOW WINDOW): IN MEMORY OF CAPTAIN HERBERT WILLIAM THOMPSON 2ND DRAGOON GUARDS ON SPECIAL SERVICE IN ASHANTEE. DIED OFF CAPE ST VINCENT JANUARY 28TH 1874 AGED 32
