About the memorial: Originally erected alongside Rochdale Town Hall in 2018 as part of Rochdale Borough's entry for the Royal Horticultural Society's Britain in Bloom North West Competition in August 2018, the Garden was moved across The Esplanade in May 2019 to a permanent site within the Rochdale Memorial Gardens (WMO 287403). The Garden consists of three raised flower beds containing symbolic plants and flowers, sandstone battered columns bearing a painted carved poppy on one side and a verse on the other, and steel silhouettes of soldiers. Seats lined with copies of the Minton tiles to be found in the Town Hall are set into the largest bed, and a steel bench bearing cut-outs of white doves and poppies is sited in front of a large white frame standing in a fourth raised bed, through which the town's Cenotaph may be viewed. Stone paving surrounds the Garden. A scaled-down version of the Garden won a gold award at the Royal Horticultural Society's Show at Tatton Park in July 2018.
