About the memorial: The war memorial consists of a simple carved stone crucifixion with INRI scroll above, on the north side of the municipal cemetery. The crucifixion is set into a socket, which in turn sits on a four step calvary. The socket bears the legend 'PRAY FOR THE SOULS OF THOSE FALLEN IN THE WAR 1914-1919'. The Crucifixion and inscription face west, and the other sides of the memorial have no decoration or inscriptions. The whole is about 2m high. The Register of Graves held by Haywards Heath Town Council records that Mrs Emma Francis Stanton bought two plots at Western Road Cemetery, Haywards Heath to erect a war memorial. c Historic England listing entry
