About the memorial: The war memorial in Kippington, Sevenoaks, Kent, is a small Portland stone wheel cross on a pillar with a moulded cap and base. The pillar stands on an octagonal plinth and a four-stepped base. Around the base of the pillar are carved olive twigs, and in the frieze around the top of the plinth is carved an inscription. The names of the fallen are commemorated around the plinth; their rank, name and regiment are listed.

Memorial unveiled Saturday 27 March 1920 reported in newspaper:KIPPINGTON WAR MEMORIAL UNVEILING CEREMONY. SERMON BY TNE BISHOP OF ROCHESTER. In the presence of large gathering, totalling between three and four hundred, the Memorial erected by the parishioners of Kippington Parish, Sevenoaks, to the memory of the men from the parish who died in the war, was unveiled on Saturday afternoon last. 
During the assembling of the congregation Sevenoaks Town Band rendered suitable selections. They also assisted in the service, at which the organist was Mr. Claude Hunter, F.R.C.O. 
The service commenced with the singing of the National Anthem, following which the sentences were read by the Rev. Canon Cooke (Vicar of Kippington). 
The Psalms, "The Lord is my Shepherd and "I will lift up mine eyes to the hills" were sung, the Rev. Percy Thompson (formerly Vicar of Kippington) then reading the Lesson. 
The BISHOP OF ROCHESTER delivered address, and said that they were gathered there in God's House to do honour to the memory of those gallant men who had gone from that parish and laid down their Lives for King and Country. They thanked Him who prompted their courage and kept them faithful unto death. They had come from the uttermost parts the Dominions to fight for the Mother Country. They had ail fought well, but in no county with more determination and unanimity than the county which owned the proud motto "Invicta.” Why had they come forth? Firstly, they came at the call of duty, which ever had been a characteristic of the British nation. Secondly, they came because they  recognised the need to protect the homeland from invasion. But they also came because they recognised that the cause was one of righteousness and justice, the protection of weaker nations. They went joyfully, and wives, mothers and daughters had sent them forth with smiling faces, although with aching hearts. And today practically no family but had the poignant memory of someone, the flower of the flock, the hope of the family, whom they would never see here again earth. The people of Kippington had their own Roll Honour. There were twenty-seven names which would be handed down through generations as the names of those who had made the extreme sacrifice in the war. 
Continuing, the Bishop dealt with the duty of those who remained towards those who had come back bearing in their bodies the marks war—yes, and he said without hesitation—the marks of their Lord. And what about those who had to thank  God that their sons had come home scatheless? Their duty was to see that the sacrifice which had been made their behalf strengthened their determination that the England for which these men died became worthy of their heroic death. They did not go forth that if spared they would come back to an England the same as in the years immediately preceding the war. They looked with kindled imagination to a nobler England- 
At the close of the Lord Bishop's address the congregation joined in the singing the hymn "The Son God goes forth to War."
The assembly then left the Church and gathered round the Memorial Cross, which Stands a few feet away from the building. The weather was now rough and stormy, and a slight fall of rain took place during the ceremony. Here the Band played Chopin’s  "Dead March" with magnificent feeling and expression. 
Major-General H. F. Thuillier, C.B., C.M.G., G.O-C. the Forces at Chatham, then cut the strings holding the Union Jack, and the Memorial, an artistic "Wheel Cross," standing some fifteen or twenty feet high, and composed of Portland atone, stood revealed, a simple but effective design, and one worthy of the men to whose memory it has been erected. 
In unveiling the Memorial, Major- General THUILLIER said that they might well be grateful to the men who had gone from that parish to take up arms against the greatest danger which this country had had face in the long centuries of its ' history. It was well to be grateful both to the men who had died and to those who had survived manifold and unparalleled dangers. He spoke with experience when he said that none had shown more devotion or greater constancy and courage than the County Battalions such as the one to which most  of the men whose names were inscribed on the Memorial belonged. 
The Lord Bishop then dedicated the Memorial, the singing of the hymn "The Saints of God! their conflict past," and the sounding the "Last Post" and "Reveille" by two Privates of the Royal West Kents bringing the ceremony to a close. 
Amongst those taking part in the ceremony were Major-General Dallas, Colonel J. D. Laurie, the Rev. H P. Thompson. Rev. F. W. Baggallay. Rev. S. Hebert and Mr. de Barri Crawshay. 
The Memorial, designed by Sir Thomas Graham Jackson, Bt., R.A.. and built by Messrs. Thompson and Sons, of Peterborough, bears the inscription: "In memory of the men of Kippington who died for their King and Country in the Great War, 1914-1919." 
The following were the names: Thomas George Barnett. Frederick Harold Bourne, Leonard Brooker, Walter Chatfield, Frederick Herbert Clouting, George Coleman, Thomas Edward Colgate, Silas George Copper, Lionel Henry de Barri Crawshay, Wilfrid Dennes, Frank Draper, Mordon Stewart Field, Joseph Henry Caldbeck Fulton, Frederick Jesse Gibson, Maurice Hemmant. Walter William Henry Hodder, Arnold Jarvis, James Ernest Millfs, Ernest Edward Mitchell, Askew William Palmer, Henry Arthur Poland, George Harold Pinchin, Charles Cecil Theobald, Sidney Herbert Theobald, Frederick Holland Vicat, Horatio John Vicat, and Edwin James Wilkins.
Many floral tributes were laid the Memorial at the conclusion of the service, amongst these being: "In loving remembrance of our dear son and brother. Lce.-Corpl. James Wilkins, from Mum. Dad and Sisters"; "In loving memory of dear Arthur, from Mrs. Henry Poland"; "With deepest sympathy from his broken-hearted parents, to G.S. Field"; "In loving memory of dear George, from Mother, Brothers and Sisters"; "In loving memory of Arnold Jarvis. from Father and Sisters"; "In loving memory of my sons, from M. F. K. Vicat"; "In grateful memory of the men who laid down their lives, from an anonymous sympathiser"; "In loving memory of Major Wilfrid Dennes and his friends"; "In loving memory of dear Uncle Ted, from Margaret"; "In loving memory of dear Fred, from Dad and Bertha"; "In loving remembrance, Mrs. Terry and Winnie, Mrs. and Miss Gibson"; "To dear Tom, from Mother and Sisters." There were several wreaths without names, notably beneath the panel containing the name of Mr. de Barri Crawshay's son. A huge laurel was placed round the Memorial.
