About the memorial: Dedicated to Pilot Officer George Doutrepont in 2003. He was killed when his Hurricane came down right on the station booking office. Clerk, Charles Ashdown was also killed.

STAPLEHURST RAILWAY STATION/ In Memory of one of Churchill's "Few"/ Pilot Officer Georges Louis Joseph Doutrepont/ aged 27 years/ Belgian Air Force and 229 Squadron Royal Air Force/ who lost his life at this spot while flying Hurricane N2537/ in combat on Battle of Britain Sunday/ 15th September 1940/ Also remembering/ Southern Railways Booking Clerk/ Charles Alfred Ashdown aged 18 years/ from Pluckley in Kent/ who lost his life when the Hurricane struck this station/ "When you go home tell them of us, and say,/ for your tomorrow we gave our today"/ We Will Remember Them/ (Dedicated 15th September 2003)
