About the memorial: Brass Plaque. It is to the right of the West Door, just below the memorial to the Tirah campaign. The memorial was first placed in the garrison church at Dorchester; there is a brief item in the Bath Chronicle, 18 April 1895, p 6: 'A handsome mural brass has been placed in the garrison church at Dorchester, in memory of the late Colonel Phibbs, commanding the Dorset Regiment, who recently died at Madras. The brass was subscribed for by the officers and men of the regiment.' A Minor Faculty was issued in 1932 when the memorials to Lt Col William Phibbs and Captain John Compton Pyne were transferred to Sherborne from West Fordington church (Dorset History Centre PE/SH/CW 4/2/23)
