About the memorial: Bronze shrine with books of remembrance ornate shrine with pedimented top which has at its apex the town coat of arms above a laurel wreath containing a crown. A white ensign and union flag flank these. Beneath this is the WW1 inscription. In main part of shrine, behind glass door, are the books of remembrance topped by Flanders poppies. WW2 inscription is beneath the books at bottom of shrine. There is a light on within the shrine. There are 677 WW1 and 580 WW2 names.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

You can save your Pre-application enquiry form as you go along. Once submitted War Memorials Trust will respond.

To the glorious memory of the men and women of the County Borough of Bournemouth who made the supreme sacrifice in the Great War 1914-1918 and whose names are inscribed in this book. Within the shrine a separate inscription states - In honoured memory of the men and women of the County Borough of Bournemouth who gave their lives in the 1939-1945 war
