About the memorial: A memorial stone with a relief image of an Alsatian dog's head. The dog was involved in search and rescue work in Liverpool during the May Blitz and is credited with saving 150 lives. The dog won the Dickens Medal and lead a march past in London on VE Day. He was also involved in search and rescue work after the William Pit Disaster at Whitehaven, Cumberland on 25 August 1947- which claimed the lives of 104 miners, in a town of 25,000 souls- one of the worst pit disasters in the 300 year history of The Cumberland coalfields. The Memorial was unveiled in 1949 and marks his place of burial- died 18 October 1949. The memorial was cleaned in July 2016 by pupils of Childwall Church of England Primary School and The Reader in celebration of Jet's Birthday
