About the memorial: This memorial was formerly listed as being inside the premises of Riddetts of Bournemouth, but that company has been taken over by Ewbank Clarke Auctioneers. The building was originally a Drill Hall for the Hampshire Territorial Regiment The two tablets containing the Roll of Honour for the regiment have been moved to St Peters Churchyard in central Bournemouth (rededicated on the 11 September 2011). The new plaque next to this states that the memorial itself remains at Holdenhurst Road (the former Battalion HQ and Drill Hall at 177 Holdenhurst Road which is now converted into the Battalions flats. Entrance in Portchester Place. The memorial plaque is on the north wall of the gated, locked car park). This entry has been amended to represent the Roll of Honour and a new entry has been created for the central section of the memorial which was not moved. (WMO 136123) This memorial stands behind a group of CWGC gravestones. The regimental colours are laid up in the church (WMO 74091).

The plaque bearing the inscription is still in the Drill Hall. It reads - 'Erected by their comrades in arms to the lasting memory of those Officers, NCOs and men who served with the Battalion of the 7th Hampshire Regiment during the Great War for Civilisation and who laid down their lives for King and Country. Dulce et Decorum est Pro Patria Mori'
