About the memorial: The memorial is between the Poole Park War Memorial gates and the municipal War Memorial by the lake. It was extensively reconstructed in the autumn of 2018 as part of a general refurbishment of Poole Park funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and of the war memorial zone in particular, funded by the HLF and War Memorials Trust. The original rough stone edging was replaced by a style deemed to be more in keeping with the overall architectural style of the Park and the war memorial zone. This was a decision taken by the Poole authorities, and WMT was not involved in paying for this part of the project. There was an opening ceremony on Saturday November 10th. Unfortunately the heavens opened as the Mayor unveiled the restored memorial at 11am. this was attended by approx 100 people who were handed postcards with the names of those who fell in WWI on them, and watched an inspiring and moving performance by local artists, Valise Noir story-telling theatre.
