About the memorial: A white, marble tablet in the shape of a trapezoid (longer edge at top) with a pediment divided from main body by heavily corniced divider plus two carved lions feet resting on a shelf at its base. The triangular pediment encompasses a carved scythe and flowers and has carved curve quadrant supports at each end. The dedication is in black, lower & uppercase , incised lettering.

Here are deposited the Remains of /WILLOUGHBY VERE BERTIE/He was born 20th April 1811: and died 26th July 1812/His father the Honorable WILLOUGHBY BERTIE . Capt RN/had perished in the SATELLITE which he commanded/off Cherbourg.19th December 1810: aged 23 years/CATHERINE his disconsolate mother /inscribes this marble to the memory of/her beloved husband and only child/
