About the memorial: Edmund Earle Benson's death is recorded on a family memorial. (Note: The 76th regiment returned to England from India in 1806. It garrisoned Jersey in 1807 and was sent to Spain in 1808. It was involved in the retreat to Corunna in 1809 and also in 1809 was sent on the Walcheren Expedition. From 1810 to 1813 it was on garrison duty in Ireland, where Benson died of fever. After its duty in Ireland the 76th served in the Peninsula campaign in 1814.)
