About the memorial: Heworth stone and bronze. Rectangular stone pedestal with side wings; moulded copings. Rests on two concrete steps. Bronze plaque affixed to front of pedestal contains classical figures and dedication and names of the fallen of the First World War; small plaque below commemorating Cyprus conflict; bronze plaques on either side wing recording the fallen of the Second World War. HISTORY: This memorial was designed by Mr. G Burn of Bebside and made by J.W. Reed of Newcastle at a cost of £250. The memorial was unveiled on 9th April 1925 by Sapper George Smith and was dedicated by Rev. J Burdon. It was moved from its original location outside the Choppington Miner's War Memorial Institute to the present site in 1953

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.
