About the memorial: The memorial is a stone plaque in the glass walled meeting room created at the west end of the church under the tower. Its is on the west wall and is let into the top of the wood panelling. The inscription is on a rectangular piece of stone the lettering is filled in black. Above this is a smaller piece of stone which is 5 sided and on which is carved the badge of the Lancashire Fusiliers, this is brightly coloured. (Alwyne Porter is buried in the Lancashire Landing Cemetery Gallipoli)

In loving memory of Alwyne Morton Francis Worsley Porter Lieutenant 1st Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers killed in action whilst leading his men up the cliff in the Lancashire landing at Gallipoli, on 25th April 1915, aged 24 years. This tablet is dedicated by his parents J. Francis & Edith S. Porter, of Helmsley. "He will swallow up death in Victory"
