About the memorial: Octagonal stone base of 3 steps, octagonal plinth with names of the dead. Octagonal shaft with moulded base and foliage top. Cross with roll-moulds and voluted foliage terminals. Stands c 12 foot high from top of step The dedication clearly says Whitechurch but the village is named Whitchurch, and is derived from St Wite (whose Latinised name is St Candida, hence the Church name, which houses the only Shrine in England to survive the Reformation, save that of Edward the Confessor). Located in the road in front of the churchyard.
