About the memorial: A Portland stone pillar on a square base on a stone surround with a pyramid top and floral finial. It was erected in the 1870s as part of major works carried out on the Rousdon Estate. It sits opposite the North Lodge of the estate, which has gate posts reflecting a similar design. It was erected as a milestone, and carries the names of towns, and their proximity to it, on its north, west, and east faces. It was adopted as the estate's Great War Memorial by the addition of a granite tablet with black leaded inscription let into the south face. In 2007 an additional small granite tablet commemorating a man who fell in WW2 was let into the top of the base below.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.
