About the memorial

Built 1922. Designed by Stirling architect George R Davidson. Unveiling in October 1922 by Field Marshall Earl Haig.

When seen in 2014 the memorial was surrounded with scaffolding so hopefully the necessary restoration is under way.

Restoration complete 2015.

Condition level: Good
Comments: As the author of the initial Poor assessment in 2011, it was a pleasure to see such a sensitive job of repair and cleaning, with careful avoidance of the trap of over-cleaning. Congratulations to those involved.
Condition level: Good

Condition level: Good
Comments: The Memorial is now fully restored with work completed February 2015.
Condition level: Poor
Comments: The Memorial is suffering from a number of repair issues, particularly to boundary wall. Heavy vegetation growth on boundary wall. Some graffiti on bronze plaques and stained. Cement pointing to much of masonry. Paving slabs cracked.
Condition level: Poor
Comments: It was admittedly a dreech day when I visited it, but there was an air of neglect, and rather a lot of green lichen.
Comments: This Memorial was repaired in 2014 with grant funding from the War Memorials Trust, Clackmannanshire & Stirling Environment Trust and Stirling Common Good Fund. The project was managed by Stirling City Heritage Trust. Works included repointing of masonry, cleaning and rewaxing of bronzes and reinstatement of missing architectural detail.

The inscription and names field should show what exactly appears on the war memorial. This is designed to be an accurate record in case of theft or damage.

Inscription: No inscription information has been submitted yet. Why not be the first?
