About the memorial

The memorial is located beside the Carshalton Ponds opposite the church. The memorial is a stone block rectangular cenotaph, surmounted by an ornate altar. The original bronze plaques were stolen by thieves and later replaced by the generosity of local businessmen.

Condition level: Good
Comments: Cleaned April 2014 by local council.
Condition level: Good
Comments: Good condition, but the present plaques are replacements, indicating that prominent memorials in positions such as this are not safe from thieves!
Comments: Although it is true the metal plaques were stolen and replaced by stone, it is also the case that the metal plaques were not the first - they replaced the original stone plaques that had worn so the new stone plaques take us back to the way the memorial was originally designed.

The inscription and names field should show what exactly appears on the war memorial. This is designed to be an accurate record in case of theft or damage.
