Comments:
Structurally sound Plant growth on the flat surfaces of the plinth – the flat surfaces are covered in soil and debris (from the overhanging trees) that has accumulated over the years and lots of plants are now growing in this debris. They do not appear to be causing damage now, but the roots will eventually extend and penetrate the mortar joints. These plants (and the debris) can easily be removed by lifting (see picture of strip of plants, roots and soil) and removing and then lightly brushing the surfaces. There are also some plants growing in gaps between the Memorial and the surround. These are potentially more problematic in the short term as they are rooted in the ground and could grow quickly. There is also an increasing amount of moss.
