Comments:
The concrete of the base appears to be stable but there is some erosion and minor water seepage. The stonework of the cairn appears to be stable and has not been damaged by soot or pollution but there are deep cracks and mortar is missing from many joints. The stonework of the tall pillar protruding from the cairn appears to be stable and shows only weathering. There is no visible damage by vandalism or graffiti. The metal plaque is firmly attached to the cairn and is not dented or visibly corroded. The raised lettering is legible but there is minor damage to the numbers in the date. There is some staining from the plaque into the concrete surround below. The memorial sits on top of a steep hill in farm fields that house animals (sheep on the day of inspection). The animals keep the surrounding vegetation under control and the hill is clear of litter. Access is across farmland through three gates and, in part, along tracks that can be muddy. There is no clear path to the summit of the hill. Access would be difficult or impossible for mobility-impaired visitors.
