Overall condition: FAIR (improved from POOR)
Having secured some grant funding via the War Memorials Trust, Loose Parish Council were able to proceed with the agreed works. The following cleaning and restoration works have now been completed by the specialists Burslem Stonemasons: 
- Sensitive cleaning of the war memorial stone and paved area 
- All bedding and perp joints of the memorial structure raked out and repointed with a hydraulic lime-based mortar
- Paving around the memorial raked out and repointed in a lime-based mortar
- Two number 8mm holes drilled in the cracked stone to the back corner of the plinth block and two number M6 stainless steel pins inserted, resin fixed in place and holes filled in lime and Portland stone dust mortar to prevent further opening of the crack. Crack filled with a lime and Portland stone dust based pointing mix.
- Damaged section of stone at the base of the plinth block has been cut out and replaced with a new section of Portland Base bed limestone profiled to match the existing form.
We now consider the condition of the stone to be GOOD.

The FAIR condition rating has been given as there is still a need to address restoration of a plaque which has missing and/or damaged lead lettering. It became apparent during the works that the damage is more extensive than first considered. Upon WMT advice we are updating on the work completed and will seek a quote for the lettering restoration as a new project.
