Comments:
Photographs from November 2017 and January 2018 have been added to the image collection. Access to the memorial via the narrow path has deteriorated significantly due to the presence of cattle on this working croft. Access to the memorial is now considered to be dangerous because of the condition of the footpath. Public access to the memorial has not been stock-fenced by either the tenant of the croft or the landowner, The Clan Donald Lands Trust. This is now a significant Health and Safety risk to visitors to the site and at the 2017 Remembrance Day Service the conditions were described by one attendee as 'appalling'. This has been followed up by an email in January 2018 from Hugh Gardner, Highland Council's Head of Bereavement Services who said 'The tenant crofter/landowner also have H&S obligations in so far as they are solely responsible for having cattle on site, with no fencing restriction, cattle that could, I’m sure, cause serious injury or death to members of the public visiting a recognised and register WM'. A Public Meeting is to be held in Sleat on 11th January 2018 to discuss both the condition of access and the deterioration of the Kilmore Memorial and to see ways to resolve this impasse. The meeting will be chaired by the Highland Council and all interested parties are invited to attend.
