Comments:
Renovation work to the Barkway War Memorial was completed on 30/10/2017 with thanks to a grant award from the War Memorials Trust. DOFF cleaning was carried out to the World War 1 parts of the memorial, the paved surround and steps. The dislodged plinth stone was lifted and realigned. Lime mortar repairs were carried out to some damaged stone areas on the memorial plinth and base. The World War 2 stone wedge was lifted and taken away to be carefully hand cleaned. The lettering was then sharpened to allow paint to be applied to the lettering, in a lead grey colour to match the black-lime mortar fill of the other inscriptions. The existing Yorkstone paving and steps surrounding the memorial were then all taken up and rebedded, replacing damaged or missing Yorkstone with new or salvaged Yorkstone. A rededication ceremony took place after the Remembrance Day service on Sunday 12th November 2017.
