Comments:
Wylam Parish Council are the custodians of the War Memorial in Wylam. I am the Clerk for the Parish Council and have undertaken a visual check of the memorial. The memorial is on the main road through Wylam and has become damaged by pollution. The upright section of the memorial is becoming corroded by pollution causing damage to the surface of the stone. The memorial is beginning to be covered in moss. The limescale mortar is missing from some sections of the memorial which over time would lead to the memorial becoming unstable. The brass plaques are stained green showing deterioration of the brass, which is running down onto the stonework of the memorial creating a green stain on the stone.
