Comments:
This indoor limestone Memorial was installed originally in 1920 after the First World War, with an additional stone to commerate the fallen of the Second War War being added in 1956. It is rather tired with a substantuial accumulation of dust on all the upper surfaces, and the stonework has some chips and missing elements near the floor. The paintwork of the shields is thought to have been repainted in the last 30 years or so, but it is uncertain whetehr the proper colours were reproduced. The black paint for the names of the fallen has been redone within the last 5 years but, again, the quality of the work is suspect as there are many letters with flakes of paint missing already. The gilding is gold paint rather than gilt. The Memorial is directly across from the entrance to the Priory. It is in a rather dark location so it is planned to illuminate it with 2 high level LED lights to enable people to see it in all its splendour.
