The stone pediment of the calvary cross has become cracked, and the movement of the large wooden cross mounted on it is widening and worsening the crack. If untreated this threatens the stability of the memorial, and may ultimately cause the calvary-cross section to collapse. There is an associated risk of injury to visitors as the memorial is easily accessible from a nearby footpath close to a busy school, and sited at the edge of an active churchyard.
