Comments:
The rear brass plaque records restoration work in 1986, but more recent work has clearly been undertaken. Google Street View shows that the left gate used to have a fixed plate holding part of the latch. This plate would have covered the "2nd 1939" dedication. Street View for 2017 shows that the lower gate panels were then in Poor condition. Street View 2018 shows that those lower panels along with the "2nd 1939" down-piece had been replaced with new unvarnished wood, and that the latch plate had been reattached to the new wood. Since then, the new pieces have since been stained/varnished to match the original wood, the latch plate has been removed altogether and the "2nd 1939" dedication has been re-cut in its place. Overall, the current condition is Fair. Much of the unrestored timber is very weathered due to its age. The inscriptions are legible, apart from the first word "In" which is indistinct. However the memorial is clearly being cared for and has received recent attention.
