Comments:
The memorial deteriorated following two floods at the Newman School site on Lismore Place, Carlisle in 2006 and 2015. Following the latter, the building was broken into and the memorial was damaged. With construction of a replacement school on a new site underway, Cumbria Archives undertook conservation work on the five items and the originals are now held for safe keeping in their cold store and are not accessible to the public. Digital reproductions were made and these may now be consulted through the Cumbria Archives at their Carlisle office (catalogue reference DS 6/4). Other digital reproductions have been framed in the frames in which they were originally displayed at Newman School on Lismore Place and are now housed in the St John Henry Newman School site at Upperby, Carlisle, together with a reproduction of the scroll of honour for Lt. Joseph Henry Collin, VC and modern information panels. These are not normally publicly accessible.
