Comments:
The War Memorial has now been removed from the Baptist Chapel as this is being converted into a dwelling. Mossford's in Cardiff came and did the removal at the end of July. On taking it back to their workshop they have given us a report on its condition and this matches the 'Fair Condition' status, however work needs to be done. Report on Condition: "You will note that there are some repairs required and some historic poor repairs that need to be redone more sympathetically and with more disguise and finesse. In addition to this there are many layers of dirt and debris – natural dust and air-borne debris, carbonised coatings (possibly from fumes from wax candles over the years) together with some other coatings of cleaning products possibly used over the years. We are confident that the coloured Italian Marble frame together with the Black marble inscription tablet and the deep-relief carved Italian white marble should clean up and repair to a very good standard and be close to the vibrant appearance the memorial would have had originally. The fine, shallow, hand carved lettering also needs careful cleaning and then re-inlaying with the finest English Gold Leaf to ensure that the inscription is legible and vibrant once again. All original and now oxidising fixings need to be carefully removed and all sections need to be secured safely together using specialist stainless steel fixings. Once we know the details of the surface the restored plaque is going to be re-set to, we can prescribe the safest system of fitting and fixings. However, we have anticipated a solid wall and have included in our quotation for supplying and fitting the necessary stainless steel fixings and any other fixings necessary." The Parish Council are ensuring this is returned to a good condition and will update this site with further details.
