Comments:
Condition poor to very poor. This memorial - owing to its historical origin - is extremely isolated, surrounded by hundreds of trees and very difficult to find (access is via footpath from Bayford village). Unsurprisingly, it has probably not benefitted from any repair or maintenance for over a century, perhaps since the inscription to Col. Clinton-Baker was added and the last of the Baker family occupation of Bayfordbury ended in 1939. The slabs comprising the base are separating, leaving the column and plinth sitting on crumbling foundations. It would benefit from urgent repairs. The relevant inscription for Henry Baker is just about legible; that for Osbert Clinton-Baker just about illegible.
