Comments:
Plaques. Originally in The Miners Hall, Imeary Street, South Shields, relocated on closure. Originally the Memorial had 31 panels- the centre one being the dedication, flanked on either side with 12 panels on each side for the names of the served and returned (24 panels in all) and the outer 3 panels on each side (a total of 6 panels) being for the names of the fallen. Panels 2, 4, 5, 12, 16, 17, 28 and 29 [these numbers are in sequence of the 30 names panels) are now missing and have not been traced in spite of an appeal in the local newspaper. The removal from the Miner's Hall lacked finesse, with original screws and bolts still in the back of the panels [if not removed originally with care, that may now be deemed to be the most conservation friendly approach, and numbering in white paint on the reverse of each panel to show the sequence.
