Comments:
WMT has received the following condition update: "Following a report by Sally Strachey Historic Conservation, I believe the condition should be updated to Very Bad, at the memorial is deemed unsafe for the public, and has since been cordoned off "The WW2 war memorial located in Lavender Hill Cemetery is showing significant deterioration of the stone structure. The coping panels were found to be loose, cracked, broken and displaced. The central ashlar side panels have suffered from subsidence and become displaced; they are leaning away vertically from the structure along the joints due to the presence of corroding cramps. The adjacent panels have also moved laterally. The paving surrounding the memorial was also found to be displaced, fractured and missing in places. Following the survey, it was recommended that the memorial and surrounding paving and planter should be cordoned off from the public as a safety precaution."
