About the memorial: The memorial was paid for by public subscription, with around 1500 people contributing. Unveiled and dedicated at a ceremony on 16th September 1922. WWII names were added in 2000 following a campaign by Mr Jim Long of the Royal British Legion. A Celtic wheel cross, upon a slender, tapered, octagonal column, atop a tapered square block plinth. The bront face bears a bronze plaque with the general commemoration, and the three other faces bear similar plaques listing the names of the fallen. Around the base of the plinth are stone plaques with the names of the WW2 fallen inscribed. The whole sits on a two-stepped square base, set within iron railings.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.
